Corn Gluten . . . as a fundraiser.
There are several reasons why I believe Corn Gluten can make the ideal revenue generator for Community Beautification. Here is an outline that tells why:
- Corn Gluten is an all natural oragnic weed seed germination suppresent, or in other words, it acts as a pre-emergent herbicide. Studies have shown that it will (when applied properly) prevent most common weeds from sprouting. It does not kill anything, it simply prevents seeds from germinating properly and growing.
- Corn Gluten is also an all natural source of Nitrogen. Having a composite makeup of 9-0-0 or so, it is ideal for blending with balanced fertilizers to make a complete application for both lawns and gardens.
- There is a significant difference between the wholesale bulk purchase price of the product, and the current retail prices (of it or comparable products). This means that there is significant potential for generating revenues.
- There is a proven demand for the application (results of usage) of the product. Although knowledge of corn gluten is limited, it's chemical alternative PREEN, is well known and purchased by many.
- Corn Gluten is perfect for using in beds mulched with wood chips, as the 9-0-0 fertilzer component will help counter the nitrogen depletion caused by the breakdown of the chips.
- Corn Gluten is essentially harmless. It is not even regulated by the EPA. (see page 9 on link). In fact it is often used in animal feed. Although, it is sometimes shipped as a powder, it is now typically provided in granular form.
